Posture & Ergonomics

How we sit, stand, work, study, sleep, exercise, and use technology can influence the way our bodies function. From children looking down at phones and tablets to adults spending hours at computers, modern life places tremendous demands on the spine, muscles, joints, and nervous system. “Tech neck” is real—and technology isn’t going away.

In our Posture & Ergonomics section, we explore how everyday habits, prolonged sitting, screen time, workstations, backpacks, sleep positions, repetitive activities, and poor movement patterns can affect posture and spinal function. We also provide practical information about ergonomics, movement, stretching, strengthening, and healthier habits that can help counter the physical stresses of modern life.

Chiropractic can play an important role in this process. Good posture involves more than simply reminding yourself to “sit up straight.” A thorough chiropractic examination can help identify restrictions, alignment and movement concerns, muscular imbalances, and other factors that may influence how the body moves and adapts. When appropriate, chiropractic adjustments combined with corrective exercise, physical therapy, and better ergonomic habits can help support improved mobility, function, and posture.

Whether it’s a child developing lifelong habits, a student spending hours studying, an athlete balancing training with screen time, or an adult working at a desk every day, our goal is to help people understand the stresses placed on their bodies and take practical steps to counter them. Technology may be here to stay, but poor posture doesn’t have to be.
