Quick Answer

Headaches and neck pain can have more than one contributing factor. Joint restriction, muscle tension, posture, previous injuries, weakness, and movement patterns may all play a role.

That’s why chiropractic care doesn’t always have to stand alone. At Chandler Chiropractic, we may combine chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, physical therapy, corrective exercise, and lifestyle recommendations when your examination shows that an integrated approach is appropriate.

The goal isn’t simply temporary relief. We want to understand what may be contributing to the problem and help improve how your body moves and functions.

Chiropractic FAQs - HeadachesThe Complete Answer

Headaches and neck pain often overlap.

Tight muscles can affect movement. Poor movement can place additional stress on muscles and joints. Posture can add another layer. Previous injuries, repetitive work, sports, sleep habits, and long hours using computers or phones may also contribute.

That’s why focusing on only one piece of the problem may not always be enough.

At Chandler Chiropractic, we start by understanding your history and examining how your body functions. From there, we determine which types of care make sense for you.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic adjustments focus on joint and spinal movement. When areas of the spine aren’t moving as they should, adjustments may help restore motion and support better function.

For someone experiencing headaches and neck pain, we pay particular attention to the cervical spine, posture, range of motion, previous injuries, muscle function, and neurological findings.

But an adjustment is only one tool.

Massage Therapy

Muscle tension often accompanies neck pain and certain types of headaches.

Massage therapy can help address tight or overworked muscles and soft tissues. It can also complement chiropractic care by helping improve mobility and reduce muscular tension.

This can be especially helpful when long hours at a computer, stress, repetitive activity, exercise, or posture contribute to muscle tightness.

Physical Therapy and Corrective Exercise

Improving movement sometimes requires more than restoring joint motion.

Weakness, muscular imbalances, limited mobility, and poor movement patterns may also need attention. Physical therapy and corrective exercises can help strengthen weak areas, improve flexibility, and reinforce healthier movement.

The combination matters.

Chiropractic may address joint movement. Massage can focus on muscle and soft-tissue tension. Physical therapy and exercise can help improve strength, mobility, and movement patterns.

When appropriate, these approaches can work together as part of one individualized plan.

Why Your Examination Comes First

We don’t automatically recommend the same combination of care for everyone with headaches.

Every headache has a story.

We want to know when your headaches began, how often they occur, where you feel them, what triggers them, and what you’ve already tried. We also ask about previous injuries, car accidents, sports, posture, work, exercise, sleep, stress, and other factors that may provide important clues.

Then we examine you.

Your examination may include range-of-motion testing, posture assessment, muscle testing, orthopedic and neurological testing, spinal evaluation, and other assessments based on your history.

When clinically appropriate, we may also take digital X-rays to better understand your spinal structure and determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate.

Sometimes we recommend chiropractic care alone. Sometimes massage therapy, physical therapy, or corrective exercise should become part of the plan.

And sometimes your findings tell us that another healthcare provider or additional testing should come first.

That’s why the examination matters.

What About Posture and Headaches?

Posture can be another important part of the picture.

Phones, tablets, computers, driving, studying, and prolonged sitting can place significant physical demands on the neck and upper back. Over time, those habits may contribute to stiffness, muscle tension, and changes in how the neck moves.

Simply telling someone to “sit up straight” may not solve the problem.

We look at posture together with spinal movement, muscle balance, mobility, daily habits, previous injuries, and the demands you place on your body.

When posture contributes to the problem, ergonomic changes, stretching, strengthening, physical therapy, and chiropractic care may all become part of the conversation.

What This Means for You

If you experience recurring headaches, migraines, neck pain, or stiffness, the first question shouldn’t be, “Which therapy do I need?”

A better question is, “Why is this happening?”

Once we understand your history and examination findings, we can determine which approach makes the most sense. That may include chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, physical therapy, corrective exercise, changes to your daily habits, or a combination of these.

The goal is to create a plan around you—not force you into a predetermined program.

Our Perspective at Chandler Chiropractic

After more than 22 years of caring for patients, one thing has become very clear: two people can have similar headaches and need very different approaches.

That’s why we listen first.

We examine.

We explain what we find.

Then we recommend the care we believe is appropriate for you.

We believe chiropractic works best when it’s part of thoughtful, individualized healthcare. When massage therapy, physical therapy, corrective exercise, additional imaging, or another healthcare professional should become part of that process, we integrate them accordingly.

Our goal is to help you understand what may be contributing to your headaches and give you a clear path forward.

Still Have Questions?

If headaches or migraines keep interfering with work, sleep, exercise, family time, or the activities you enjoy, you deserve more than guesswork.

A comprehensive evaluation can help determine what may be contributing to your symptoms and whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you.
